Shweta (Mayuri Kango), affectionately called Sweety, is an eighteen year-old problem child. She talks to a puppet as she would to her father whom she has never met. Her family maternal grandparents Taraknath (Tiku Talsania) and Shobna Gandhi (Suhas Joshi) her mother Vinita (Navani Parihar) - are unable to cope up with her tantrums. On being forced to get engaged to a boy selected by Tarak, Sweety runs away from home. She decides to go to Seychelles in search of her father. On the way she meets Rohit (Jugal Hansraj) - a struggling singer and they progressively fall in love. At Seychelles she meets Anand (Anupam Kher) - forty year-old tycoon from Paris with his girlfriend Swati (Soni Razdan). Sweety convinces Anand to pretend to be her father. A sweet father-daughter relationship develops between Sweety and Anand while she and Rohit have the usual lovers tiffs. As all misunderstandings are about to get cleared, SweetyÕs grandpa Tarak drags her back to Bombay and forces her to prepare for her wedding as planned. Anand and Rohit arrive on time to stop the wedding. Anand discovers that Sweety is actually his real daughter. He helps Sweety to get married to Rohit and is reunited with his estranged wife
