In this tale of the supernatural, the past and the present begin to merge when a happily married couple (Manoj Kumar and Waheeda Rehman) visits a ruined mausoleum. Chitrasen's (Raaj Kumar) 'Rang Mahal' is a monument to love, built long ago, in celebration of his love for princess Neel Kamal (Waheeda Rehman). He is buried alive in the dungeons by the king as a punishment. Centuries later, his spirit continues to haunt the ruins of Rang Mahal. Meanwhile, Neel Kamal reborn as Sita (Waheeda Rehman), is a housewife married to Ram (Manoj Kumar). Unaware of the past, they visit Rang Mahal. When a forlorn Chitrasen calls out to her, she finds herself responding. Sahir Ludhianvi's immortal lyrics ‘Tujko Pukare Mera Pyar’ are set to haunting music by Ravi.
