Kusum was a very poor girl. Twenty years ago she was married to Brindaban, but he did not remember being married in his childhood. After 20 years he returned to the village as a Doctor. After the wedding there had been a flight between the two families and his father (a Zamindar) had broken the tie and Brindaban tries to put this right. Brindaban did not know what to do with Kusum who had decided on him as her husband but would not let him formalies it. Then Brindaban explained her about what had happened between the two families, why he had gone to the city and why he had married another woman. This first wife had died and he had a small child. When Kusum understood all this she agreed to let Brindaban come and take her as bride the next day. The next day Brindaban could not come. Plague was spreading and it was his duty to go and attend to the sick people and since this was more important he did not go to fetch Kusum. Her brother Kunj broke her bangles that day and broke the tie between the two. But this was not yet broken, Kusum became a bride. How all this happened is worth seeing in 'KHUSHBOO'.
